Gracious Venus makes a sextile to businesslike Saturn, paving the way for a raise or promotion. A square between aggressive Mars and retiring Neptune could lead to buried resentments. Don’t let anger fester under this influence. Transformative Pluto goes direct in structured Capricorn. It’s time to return to a project designed to bring long-term security. The Sun moves into diplomatic Libra, supporting close relationships. The New Moon in Libra could mark a new romance or business alliance. A trine between optimistic Jupiter and Uranus means stepping out of our comfort zone.

Six of Pentacles There’s some inconsistency today in what you have coming in and what you have going out. Whether this is money coming in and going out or your time being squandered away and you don’t know where it all goes as you run out of time to get things done it. One thing is certain… you are not coming up trumps when it relates to the fine act of balancing. As Jupiter is inconjunct Chiron today the planet of excess (Jupiter) may have so completely had you running around in circles that you are thrown off balance when it comes to what you have actually been doing and coming up…

Traveling between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres near the solstices can be tough. Climb aboard a jet in San Diego on a sweltering day in August, and expect a shock when you arrive twelve hours later in chilly, midwinter Auckland. But nearer the equinoxes in late September and late March, which mark the beginning of autumn and spring, you can fly from one hemisphere to the other and notice little difference. If no one told you, you’d be hard pressed to say whether you were in the season of autumn’s endings or of spring’s beginnings. In life, too, there is little…

So: you had enough yet? Ready to make some changes? Well if so, I have some good news for you this week. Not one, not two, not even three… four different opportunities for you to start making some serious changes in your life are coming your way. Take advantage of them! The Sun enters Libra on Monday. This literally marks a change in seasons, and any time the Sun moves to a new Sign there is always a subtle shift of tone. I won’t belabor the usual points about how Libra is all about “balance” and “harmony” — because Libras can be just as maniacal as…

“No limits” is the theme for this relationship. Sun in Aquarius’ focus on the future blends nicely with Moon in Sagittarius’ need for adventure. Together, these two can push the boundaries without getting bogged down in heavy emotions. Both of these signs are able to approach life with perspective and the ability to release and move forward when needed. Sun in Aquarius is always interested in what’s outside the box. Conventional rules have little interest for him, although this Fixed sign can stubbornly insist on his personal rules, even if those consist of a…

While an inconjunct between you and your partner can be tough, sometimes these aspects can hit you from the outside. If a transiting planet inconjuncts a natal relationship planet, this passing spot of tension can trigger a difficult choice that often catches you off guard. Although it’s temporary, it can pinpoint an area of significant tension in your love life. This aspect indicates an external…

The big planetary players this week are Mars, freshly entered into Sagittarius and looking for broad new fields to conquer, and Saturn. Mars, literally or figuratively, is all about the “conquests.” Saturn is much more about Command and Control. While Mars is bounding through the open fields of Sagittarius, Saturn remains in somewhat-suspicious Scorpio. And that’s perfectly okay. These two very different planets being into very different Signs can add up to a sensibly balanced approach to life. If it weren’t for the drive that Mars gives us, our ancestors…

Lottery ads tell us you only need a dollar and a dream. But it is also helpful to have a list of lucky numbers to help spur the good fortune ... or fortunes. So with that in mind, here are some lucky numbers that can be used in any helpful way. I gazed into a pool of water, Nostradamus-like, and contemplated the cosmos. Then I mixed the tarot cards and allowed the spirits to guide me to the cards that represent the lucky numbers for this week. Nothing is guaranteed but who knows ....? I choose eight numbers because 8 is the number of wealth. Here are the lucky numbers for the week of…

According to a new research study, coffee helps prostate cancer survivors exercise more efficiently. Joe Frost writes that coffee not only helps boost the benefits of exercise but also helps make you more creative. But it depends on WHEN you drink it.   “Cancer survivors face unique challenges relating to the risk of cancer recurrence and the development of other chronic diseases, as well as experiencing treatment and disease-related physical and psychological side-effects,” said Dr Tina Skinner from the Centre for Research on Exercise, Physical Activity and Health at UQ’s School…

    12 Jun 2014 | 1:20 pm
... this full moon is on Friday 13th June at 5.11am, UK time. And what's it all about? well firstly, my perspective is that Friday 13th is just another day astrologically, it's not lucky or unlucky, so don't be put off by that date! Next, a full moon is always a beautiful symbol of culmination or fulfilment; it indicates contentment and satisfaction relating to a finish line or completion of certain situations.... also it can indicate movement where there is inertia/stuckness, and a turning point where there is the call for new direction. Sagittarius is all about direction, and…

Anthony Hopkins’ trademark is intense stillness broken by an electrifying stream of words, or a sudden violent movement, or a flash of those unsettling pale eyes. He is incredibly prolific. If you look at his discography, it seems as if he must have been working continuously since 1970, as producer, composer and performer (although seldom outside the studio). A pioneer of electronic music, he proved that you didn’t have to be a “musician” to make music. • Shraadh... and their importance

    18 Sep 2014 | 5:38 am
In India, Shraadhs are celebrated as a 'day of remembrance' of the ancestors. During Shraadhs people pay homage to their ancestors (known as Pitras) and express their gratitude towards them for having them in their life and making them responsible & what they are now. It is a way of expressing that they are still a part of their life. It is performed on the death anniversary or the day they died. 'Shraadh' is a Sanskrit word, which means an 'act performed with all the sincerity and faith'. On this day, people invite Brahmans to their home, serve them food/ pinda, and dakshina (fees) when…

“All forces occur in pairs, and these two forces are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.” Newton’s Third Law of Motion With the popularity of books like “The Secret,” people are excited about the idea of creating the life they want through the power of positive thinking. It’s an appealing, though not particularly fresh concept. But I suspect that what appears to be a kind of loophole in Eeyore’s Law – which states that if your life can suck, it will suck – is not exactly a get-out-of-jail-free card. This is because you are not the only force at work…

I’ve never been a napper. I’ve always been jealous of friends and family who can catch forty winks without breaking a sweat, and frustrated by my inability to rest while the Sun is out. Similar to my wariness of drugs and caution with alcohol, I have resisted the narcotic of sleep except between the socially sanctioned hours of 10 pm and 6 am. With strong Virgo planets and many hard aspects to Neptune, I’d rather remain on task, alert. My early life was so chaotic and uncertain that I suppose I grasped at structure and duty like a drowning woman pulling herself into a life raft. If I…

What does it mean to be healthy? Orderly? Tidy? Or – that most dreaded of Virgo adjectives – perfect? Like just about everyone else, I’ve had the kind of life that placed perfection decidedly out of reach early on. I’ve never had a prayer of achieving anything close to the perfect figure, the perfect career, or the perfect family life. Imperfection is the human condition, it seems, but it makes me sad that I’ve so often fallen so short of my own standards. Determined Pluto moves forward in Capricorn today. Our career ambitions could get a big boost. Request a promotion, apply for high-profile jobs or prepare to switch industries. A show of courage could pay off handsomely. We need to push past our fears for the sake of advancement. Otherwise, it could be difficult to fulfill our potential. This is a great time to ask advice on filling out job applications, conducting interviews and assembling work samples. Someone with experience in our desired field may be especially instructive. Don’t dismiss these suggestions as old-fashioned or unrealistic. Aggressive Mars also makes a square to confusing Neptune. Romantic misunderstandings can also occur. Satirists, like all professions, draw all signs of the zodiac who then put their particular energy into the profession. Some professions, like medical doctors, evoke images that come to us through myth, history and television. Do those becoming doctors all have the same motivation? Some may be drawn to problem solving; some to helping others; some to achievement; some to pleasing a parent or society. There are many reasons people become doctors. I followed a dog into the store that was much happier to be there than me (probably because he doesn’t have to pay). Oh yeah, and why are dogs allowed and not cats? Which is the most common house pet, huh? A bit to my surprise, the store was packed and product thin as the store must have had a special sale. My surprise didn’t last long, you might have guessed, as I’m an astrologer and Labor Day does fall in the sign of Virgo, which rules pets.

(Anecdotal evidence suggests Netflix has the best brand awareness in my market.) What’s interesting to me, having been on this planet before the advent of cable television, is that there is no question about whether or not to pay for television. When paid television was created, it was considered an entertainment expense. Today, it appears, it has become a necessity. Paying for television is no different than paying for electricity or water.

And it’s a Supermoon, which means it’s the closest full moon we’ll physically have to the earth this year. So, the effects of it can be pretty great. And pretty strong. For as the moon affects the ocean’s tides, it also affects the inner tides of our being. And with it being in Aquarius, we have to strive to focus its energy outward. Page of Swords: There’s a lot on your mind today and a lot of things to do. For the most part you are pretty happy just getting on with everything but there seems to be such an abundance of chores that you may need to watch that you don’t miss something… Especially running with scissors as this can imply that if you do miss something it can come back to hurt you later or imminently. Your mood is happy and upbeat and as you go about your day there is a sense of childlike fascination in all that you do and perhaps a bit of manic energy in which you do it in. This is not the day for…

Jupiter, a benefic par excellence, will always shower positive influence, if unafflicted. On the contrary, an afflicted Jupiter is not of much help in uplifting any native. Such Jupiter spoils every opportunity that comes on the way, by infusing an attitude of over-indulgence, lavish spending, dissolution, deceitfulness, hypocrisy and boast fullness. Jupiter rules over wisdom, traditional values, theistic beliefs, religion and the Judiciary. Lawyers, judges, preachers, teachers, bankers, merchants, prophets and physicians are under the influence of Jupiter. As dhanakaraka (significator of…

There are those who give of themselves tirelessly simply for the love of  doing so. Then there are those who do so out of a desire for recognition; attention for some unloved aspect of their personality. It is not for me to sit in judgement. Most of us are in that latter category more often than the first. One part of us feels undeserving. So, we give in a manner that our ego sees as being selfless. But, our actions are tainted with selfishness due to desire for ego gratification. Equally selfish is not giving to yourself. You become depleted and drained as a result and there is less of you…

You may feel like you are balking rather than chomping at the bit. But, that’s okay. Sometimes no action is the best action. It is sometimes wise to be certain of the potential impact of a step before it is taken. There is an evolution that is transpiring. You have devoted your time, attention and sweat to a cause. But has your heart been in it? And if your heart is not in it, could there have been an inkling of personal interest in the outcome of the situation? Don’t guilt trip yourself, it’s only natural. But by the same token don’t now think yourself selfish for…

Few things can be more draining than to be in a state of emotional limbo. But, the shift cannot take place until the grieving has happened. Change is, on one level, a death. But from all that passes, something new is born. Opportunity for liberation from a painful cycle is on offer soon. During the darkness, don’t desert yourself. It is only through your mind that you can declare yourself alone, friendless and loveless. It is through your heart that you can release the pain to allow more room for love and joy. But it is through your soul and your connection to it that you shall find…
