The diligent Capricorn Moon will form supportive angles to Mercury, Venus, Neptune and Pluto. This is an ideal time to finish projects and submit important work for review. Making friends in high places is also advised. Whenever we encounter obstacles, we shouldn’t hesitate to ask for help. Well-connected business executives, politicians and civic leaders can be instrumental in cutting through red tape. Anyone who is intent on finding a better job should escalate their efforts. Filling out applications, going on interviews, assembling work samples and getting letters of recommendation…

Consider the idea that each of us has his own story to create. We’re here to make a movie. We are writing the script as we go along and we are enlisting each other as supporting actors in our movie. But each of us must remember that we all have our own distinct movie and when we interact our movies are intersecting. Sometimes this creates conflict, sometimes it creates value and pleasure. The big astrological news this week is Saturn entering Sagittarius. On the one hand: yes, that’s a big deal. On the other hand, though? There aren’t likely to be many gigantic dramatic changes in the world on Tuesday just because Saturn has changed Signs. Saturn is patient, and doesn’t rush to get its work done all on the first day. (Also: undoubtedly the Scorpios out they are all breathing a sigh of relief now that Saturn is someone else’s problem. Well, not so fast, Scorpion people: thanks to a retrograde, Saturn will be back in your Sign in the spring. Sorry about…

Sun in Pisces’ dreaminess will rub Moon in Capricorn the wrong way. As Pisces explores the imaginative potentials of life, Capricorn will feel dismissive or even threatened by his boundaryless approach. However, Moon in Capricorn could be exactly what Pisces needs to keep him grounded and on track. Sun in Pisces is open to almost anything. His awareness of the magic in everyday life makes him a whimsical and romantic partner. But his extreme sensitivity means that his lover will have to be vigilant about not stepping over his boundaries. The problem is that Sun in Pisces’…

Credit: Persians via iStockphoto Eros is a spicy little asteroid who generates excitement in relationship astrology. It’s been suggested that an understanding of someone’s natal Eros gives you the keys to unlock their erotic desires. Eros contacts in synastry have been touted as creating attraction that cannot be denied. Maybe, maybe not. While Eros certainly has some important things to say about desire, it’s easy to give him so much importance that other pieces of the relationship profile are overlooked. Eros, Mars and Venus Mars is male energy, action and assertiveness.

The Uranus-Pluto square is exact on Monday. A transit as long and slow as this one cannot be suddenly expected to act up on that precise day because of that: These two planets have been within a degree of the exact aspect for about a month now. Still, it’s entirely possible that this week will see a flare-up of tensions and issues in your life that have been a problem for the last couple of years or so. Also, it’s good to know that if you’re sick and tired of the Uranus-Pluto square, there is now officially more of it behind us than ahead of us. Yippee! Civilization survived…

Both these signs share a desire for escape. Sun in Pisces is focused on what lies beyond reality, and Moon in Sagittarius needs to have an adventure on the horizon. But Moon in Sag’s bluntness may clash with Pisces’ sensitivity, creating a spiral of misunderstandings and bruised sensibilities. Sun in Pisces doesn’t always live in the real world. Monday morning the post-new Moon in Capricorn conjuncts Mercury and sextiles Neptune. That Neptune aspect sweetens the mood, which can be a little blunt without it. Whew. Reality is falling and a little pink fog is welcome. For some, this is the stark wall of holiday deadlines and the gravity of the realization of how much is left to do. For others the Neptune tinge is a nice buffer on the ration of yearly stress, or just plain, old life stress. In any case, the mood follows perception and whatever is going through your mind, so put a limit on that. Control your mind and your mood with a…

Last week, I was exposed to evil. I knowingly put myself in proximity to it. I was more deeply impacted than I even want to admit, never mind, try to explain. The more distance I put between myself and the source, the more aware I am of just how creepy it is. I believe it’s growing in power. I thought I might look at this again in three or five years, when I was standing right next to it. But today I think I’d be well advised to never get near it again. It’s made me think about Pluto and Scorpio and the 8th house. The whole “attraction to taboo”, thing.

Then I mixed the tarot cards and allowed the spirits to guide me to the cards that represent the lucky numbers for this week. Nothing is guaranteed but who knows ....? I choose eight numbers because 8 is the number of wealth. Here are the lucky numbers for the week of December…

If you are a fan of astrology and its valuable potential use, you may find this list of my top 5 things that make astrology useful and fascinating.   1. Using the Void Of Course Moons - This is a pure timing mechanism that helps me avoid disappointments - whether it is a bad haircut, a lousy job interview, a misunderstanding or whatever throws me off course. Check to see when the moon is void and avoid doing anything that requires great concentration (like signing a new lease or accepting an important offer). Wait until the moon is out of the void, think about the situation and make…

Aries21st March – 20th AprilWhatever form events take during the first week of November there’s an underlying calmness or healing quality that promotes peace of mind. Around midmonth, particularly the 10th, there’s a potent and productive energy in situations linked to career, status and long-term aims. Renewal and rebirth are key words here; trust the process means trust the timing, and stay comfortable in the (temporary) unknown or uncertainty. An amazing new moon on the 22nd suggests new adventures and learning experiences are on the cards, so watch how circumstances seem to be…

ooooh it's an interesting eclipse!... in Scorpio it's all about the point of no return... where in your life are facing a point of no return? The point of no return isn't the end of the story with Scorpio though, it means you're also renewing, rebirthing, and rising from the ashes restored and ready to roar. This eclipse is such an unusual planet set-up too. It doesn't happen often! What's happening is the sun starts its yearly journey through the sign of Scorpio and almost immediately its joined by the moon, which means it's a new moon at the beginning of the sun's journey - this doubles up…

Detail from the Penitent Magdalen by Georges De Latour The darkest night of the year is almost upon us. The nadir, the bottom, the grave, the tomb — and the womb. We are sliding gently into this zero hour, lighting our candles and fireworks to keep away the creeping shadows. Christmas is a beautiful celebration, and a deep understanding, of the light within darkness. There is no greater light than a new life. Much of our Christmas — the tree, the reindeer, the candles, the Yule log — was imported from Germany and Scandinavia. And many of their Christmas traditions have…

It’s his saint’s day today, December 6, right in the middle of Sagittarius, the sign which is solely ruled by Jupiter, and it’s hard not to see a bit, OK quite a lot, of Jupiter, in the legend of St Nick and his later avatar Mr S. But this last sprint to the finish will see Saturn making some last ditch changes to the Scorpionic chapter. It’s been quite a transit. Saturn’s been there since 2012. April
    20 Dec 2014 | 5:25 pm
On a recent morning, I woke up exhausted and filled with dread. Worrying about some new organizational duties, reluctantly assumed, had cost me sleep. Even while I was still burrowed under the blankets, a desk full of work arose before my eyes, more than I could conceivably finish on schedule. Meanwhile, a project that had been hanging over my head for weeks was now leaning, hard, on my conscience. It didn’t feel like the right fit for me, but I was afraid to turn it down for fear of burning bridges to future opportunities. Wearily, I finished my coffee, wandered into my office, and…

No sooner had the Thanksgiving leftovers been stowed away than my Facebook feed erupted in verbal fistfights about the language of the holiday season. Evidently, “Happy Holidays” is no longer a gently inclusive expression of good will, but the opening salvo in a new Crusades. And forget about “Xmas” as well, warned an indignant friend who demanded we “keep Christ in Christmas!” (I refrained from pointing out that the “X” in Xmas actually stands for Christ, because when someone is perched atop that high of a horse, facts might unbalance them and cause a nasty spill.)…

    April
    21 Nov 2014 | 6:57 am
Once, on a visit to New Zealand, I stepped outside on a cool, clear evening and looked up at the sky. What I saw made me a little dizzy: not just a thick blanket of stars, but constellations so different from the ones I’m used to! As an urban dweller, I had no idea that I’d become so familiar with the night sky – until I saw one that was utterly foreign. Sagittarius rules encounters with the unfamiliar. Some of them take us as far away as the other side of the world, where the sky is upside down. But simply traveling to an unfamiliar part of your own city will do the trick as well.
  • Mars conjunct Pluto: Sometimes You’re the Bug

    April
    14 Nov 2014 | 11:01 am
One morning last week, just as the transiting Mar/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn was rising, I was falling. I had just set down the cat’s food dish, and when I stood up, a violent spasm in my lower back sent me crumpled to the hard, tile kitchen floor. As I lay there writhing in agony, the cats ambled over to investigate. Spike apparently decided that if I was screaming, I was still alive; so he calmly started eating his breakfast a few inches from my ear, in a show of Mars/Pluto ruthlessness and Capricornian pragmatism. As Mark Knopfler once wrote, “Sometimes you’re the windshield,…

Each time we visit my husband’s native New Zealand, I spend the first five days or so completely gobsmacked by the physical beauty of the place, feeling emotionally massaged by the gentle and courteous manner of its people. And the cows! New Zealand’s sheep get all the press, but I’ve never seen so many cows in my life, and I come from a farm community. Everywhere—alongside the motorway, next to roadside cafés—cows roam verdant hills, chewing contentedly, sometimes just standing completely still and staring, seemingly at nothing. Not necessarily my idea of a good time, but…

The Capricorn New Moon will occur just six minutes after the moment of the Winter Solstice – the point at which the Sun moves into Capricorn in the tropical system.  The three days before the Winter Solstice are the darkest days of the year in the northern hemisphere.  Not only are the days shorter, but the Sun is lower in the sky, causing shadows to lengthen and its motion appears to stand still. Every New Moon brings a new beginning with the new lunar cycle.  The Sun and the Moon come together in an alchemical conjunctio – the reunification of the masculine conscious force (Sun) with the instinctive lunar feminine (Moon).  When this new beginning occurs in Sagittarius, the sign of adventure and ideas and meaning and just plain fun, we have the opportunity to bring in more zest and gusto.  Suddenly we are aware of unlimited possibilities, and our view across the future is longer and more encouraging. The symbolism of the New Moon is even more powerful since the both the Sun…

“To Be a Witch” by Dandelion Lion Although the ancient Celtic holiday of Samhain is celebrated for convenience on October 31st to coincide with Hallowe’en or All Hallows Eve, it actually occurs at the midpoint between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice.  This is also the midpoint of Scorpio, the dark season where the veils between the world begin to thin and it becomes easier to cross between them. This year the Taurus Full Moon falls within one degree of the Samhain point – the Sun at 15 degrees Scorpio.  The power of this lunar opening at this degree…

So my beloved and I have just enjoyed our seventh wedding anniversary. To celebrate, we went to see one of our favourite bands and the occasion was marked with a couple of intriguing coincidences. My husband discovered that a couple of his friends - a couple - were attending the gig so we arranged to meet for a drink beforehand and as soon as they walked through the door I realised I hadn’t seen one of them since our wedding. Then, when we arrived at the venue, I spotted a guy at the back of the room on his own looking a bit out of place. I looked and then I looked again. It was who I…

The Desert Lion (Shakir Wahiyib, the public face of Islamic State); The Lion of Babylon (Iraqi tank used during the 1991 War); the other Lion of Babylon (representing the King of Babylon and depicted at the Ishtar Gate to the ancient city, now part of Iraq) and of course, the live lions Saddam Hussein kept at his palace. Also, it seems that Jupiter's transit of Leo is incredibly relevant to modern day…

Jupiter's in Leo from July 16th through August 11th 2015.What's highlighted when the planet of growth, expansion, luck, hope, optimism and expanded horizons enters the proud, stubborn, loyal, generous, kingly sign of the lion?Hype; exaggeration; melodrama; idealism; confidence; fixed viewpoints; spotlight on authority (especially after Saturn in Scorpio comes out of Retrograde on July 20th). It’s also great for creative expression and acts of immense generosity, so long as there's an appreciative audience. Want some clues to how Jupiter in Leo might affect you? Look to…

Play It this Holiday Season © 2014 by Joyce Mason W   inter is a sacred time for people in nearly every tradition. We often complain about the crass commercialism this time of year, but consumer sales are still trumped by increased kindness and generosity, often more abundant late in the year than in all the other months combined.During November and December, we tend to pray more in mind, heart, words and song, even if our only prayer is to thank God for loved ones. After just finishing another November Prayer Month on The Radical Virgo, I received a quiet whisper from one of my…

I have neptune in the 3rd house, and it doesn’t help because my mercury is already in pisces. Is this why I have very poor concentration? Sometimes I just feel incredibly stupid. And I feel like it affects my studies. I’m having a very difficult time deciding on courses because of this. I feel like I have no direction academically, and it’s making me worried about my future. What is my purpose? Everything is a fog. I feel like an air head. :(

The New Moon falls in accomplished Capricorn today. We may feel compelled to set fresh goals and accept exciting challenges. Starting a new job, running for office and changing career paths are among the possibilities. People born under the signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn may feel especially compelled to pursue their dreams. Independent Uranus will also go direct, boosting our confidence. Suddenly, getting public approval won’t seem nearly as important as it once was. It will be easier to have the courage of our convictions. Distinctive work may be rewarded and unique ideas could be…

In the Northern Hemisphere the Winter Solstice occurs on December 21 or so, when the Sun enters the Cardinal sign of Capricorn.  In the Southern Hemisphere it’s the Summer Solstice. The Sun rises and sets at the greatest southern distance from the equator. This day marks the official beginning of the winter season with the longest night of the year and the shortest day. In the Southern Hemisphere, the opposite is true: This time marks the longest day of the year and shortest night. The Winter Solstice correlates with many traditional world holidays, usually associated with…

Attractive Venus meets with powerful Pluto today. It’s easy to make a good impression on authority figures as we have a lot of charisma especially for those born under the signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Dress professionally, speak politely and defer to the experts. Venus is also squaring rebellious Uranus, so this is not a good time to challenge the rules. Energetic Mars makes a sextile to impulsive Uranus. We should obey our instincts. Be quick to help someone struggling with a heavy burden. Rescuing stray animals could also be in the cards. Standing up for the underdog is greatly…

Our modern day Christmas celebration occurs around the same time as the ancient festival of Saturnalia, which, according to this website, became absorbed into the Christmas festivities about the fourth century AD. According to the site: In the Roman calendar, the Saturnalia was designated a holy day, or holiday, on which religious rites were performed. Saturn, himself, was identified with Kronos, and sacrificed to according to Greek ritual, with the head uncovered. The Temple of Saturn, the oldest temple recorded by the pontiffs, had been dedicated on the Saturnalia, and the woolen bonds…

I’ve always assumed that accidents, illness and death were events of scorn simply because they were physically and emotionally unpleasant. Dictionary.com describes greed as “excessive or rapacious desire, especially for wealth or possessions.” Has Ohio eradicated greed? Should Ohioans be promoting the non-greedy life among their fellow men? Or is greed strong and healthy living…

In vedic astrology, the term “Yoga” implies a specific combination and/or disposition of planets which are supposed to generate specific results for the nativity. And, these Yogas can be good as well as bad; for example, there are good yogas like Dhana yogas (related to Wealth) or Raj Yogas (related to Power and Authority) Yogas; and, there are bad Yogas like Daridra Yoga (Poverty). Sometimes, one may get confused or delighted when the astrologer, whom he or she is consulting, comes up with such terminology like, “there is a Dardira Yoga in your horoscope” or like, “you are having a…
