Once, on a visit to New Zealand, I stepped outside on a cool, clear evening and looked up at the sky. What I saw made me a little dizzy: not just a thick blanket of stars, but constellations so different from the ones I’m used to! As an urban dweller, I had no idea that I’d become so familiar with the night sky – until I saw one that was utterly foreign. Sagittarius rules encounters with the unfamiliar. Some of them take us as far away as the other side of the world, where the sky is upside down. But simply traveling to an unfamiliar part of your own city will do the trick as well.

    Matthew Currie
    23 Nov 2014 | 1:00 am
The sky’s a little more on fire this week than usual. We have Sun, Moon and Venus all entering Sagittarius. That Sign is ruled by Jupiter in Leo, which is slowing down and preparing for a retrograde, and thus can be considered more powerful. This combination leads to what’s called a “mutual reception”: The Sun and Jupiter in Signs that the other planet rules, thus boosting the power of both. You might find yourself trying to keep the lid on a situation, and you might find things catching fire anyway. Pay special attention to your relationships this week… and for…

Sun in Pisces’ focus on transcending the mundane world complements Moon in Virgo’s need to perfect the mundane world. Although each views reality from a different angle, both of these signs want something exceptional. Together, they can have it. Sun in Pisces knows there’s more to life than the daily grind. The most sensitive of all the signs, he understands that there is a higher purpose that lies just out of reach. He may approach this through creative work, empathy for others or (if he’s wallowing in his Shadow side) escapism and avoidance. Depending on how he…

Credit: Dandamanwasch via iStockphoto Are some relationships inevitable? Astrology can certainly indicate the potential arrival of a long-term union versus a fling, flirt or fantasy. But what about actually crossing paths with your promised love interest? Most reputable astrologers will not offer guarantees, even if they see multiple influences impacting your love life. This brings up the issue of predestination versus free will, and if a relationship that was “meant to be” can actually pass you by. Tomorrow’s Forecast Astrology is not a crystal ball, but it is similar to a…

The two biggest aspects this week can be powerful, yet vague and a bit confusing. Actually there are three big aspects this week, but Uranus square Pluto has been hovering around for so long that it’s easy to forget about (but I’ll bet you felt it last week when Mars joined that combination, didn’t you?). Venus square Neptune is exact on Thursday but extends its influence throughout the week. Venus in Sagittarius isn’t exactly the most logical and goal-oriented placement ever, and combined with the square to Neptune its senses might be pretty dazed. In general, you…

Tuesday morning the Moon in Capricorn conjuncts Pluto and squares Uranus. It also sextiles newly direct Chiron in Pisces. You got an intense combination here for the emotional center. It’s a mashup of deep, entrenched emotion with an electric charge. The sextile to Chiron brings in personal history and lessons learned through previous failure. If you struggle? Look for the familiar theme; that holds the answer. There can be healing. There’s nothing here that says it must be a struggle. It can also be spinning straw into gold. I’m a early morning, bird. I like to shop for groceries, soon after the store opens. I often pull into the number one parking spot, because I am the only customer there. Today, I asked one of the stock men about ordering more blueberry tea. My husband loves it and it’s rarely in stock. There is only one store in the area that carries it. He told me he would order extra, and beyond that, he’d hold a case for me in the back of the store. I’ve chatted with this man before. Hi Elsa, I am Capricorn sun (Pisces rising), so ruled by Saturn. I was wondering how Saturn ruled people handle their Saturn returns … is it easier for them, as they are already going through life under a Saturn influence? Or perhaps harder, because it is like a double dose of Saturn? Warm regards, K. Hi, K. Theoretically, it makes sense that a Capricorn would have an easier time with their Saturn return. But in reality, you can’t make a blanket statement like that. It depends on the Capricorn and a number of other variables. (...)Read the rest of Are Saturn Transits Easier If…

Lottery ads tell us you only need a dollar and a dream. But it is also helpful to have a list of lucky numbers to help spur the good fortune ... or fortunes. So with that in mind, here are some lucky numbers that can be used in any helpful way. I gazed into a pool of water, Nostradamus-like, and contemplated the cosmos. Then I mixed the tarot cards and allowed the spirits to guide me to the cards that represent the lucky numbers for this week. Nothing is guaranteed but who knows ....? I choose eight numbers because 8 is the number of wealth. Here are the lucky numbers for the week of November…

This from PSFK: If you want to see ghosts, you just may get a sign from the afterlife at artist Fernando Orellana‘s “Shadows” exhibit. For the interactive installation, Orellana employs objects from the recently deceased to lure them back to play. The paranormal playground includes tools to detect the ghosts when and if they return. For the exhibit, Orellana, a New York-based new media artist, gathered items from estate sales to allow spirits to return to their treasured belongings. He then employed ghost-sensing technology often used in paranormal research to monitor the return of the…

Aries21st March – 20th AprilWhatever form events take during the first week of November there’s an underlying calmness or healing quality that promotes peace of mind. Around midmonth, particularly the 10th, there’s a potent and productive energy in situations linked to career, status and long-term aims. Renewal and rebirth are key words here; trust the process means trust the timing, and stay comfortable in the (temporary) unknown or uncertainty. An amazing new moon on the 22nd suggests new adventures and learning experiences are on the cards, so watch how circumstances seem to be…

ooooh it's an interesting eclipse!... in Scorpio it's all about the point of no return... where in your life are facing a point of no return? The point of no return isn't the end of the story with Scorpio though, it means you're also renewing, rebirthing, and rising from the ashes restored and ready to roar. This eclipse is such an unusual planet set-up too. It doesn't happen often! What's happening is the sun starts its yearly journey through the sign of Scorpio and almost immediately its joined by the moon, which means it's a new moon at the beginning of the sun's journey - this doubles up…

    Demystifying the Aquarian Age

  • A Funny Thing Happened in the 21st Century – Part 1

    Terry MacKinnell
    6 Nov 2014 | 7:02 pm
The astrological ages behave like mighty ocean waves. Each age-wave mimics each other age-wave, in shape, size and velocity, but the variation is in the archetypes associated with each wave.  Each wave brings a different set of archetypes with it.  The problem with astrological ages is that they are spaced around 2,150 years apart and very few people can contextualize a series of historical currents separated from each other by 2,150 years. Dividing an age into three equal parts creates age-decans with each age-decan in the order of around 700 years may be slightly more palatable, but the…

    14 Oct 2014 | 10:37 pm
The recent flare up of Ebola in West Africa is obviously a cause of concern based purely on the media attention given to it, especially in cases that are appearing in Western nations.  The general public is already feeling highly vulnerable with the ISIS threat in Syria and Iraq and with firm memories of the recent GFC.  Astrology can provide insights into many situations, like a relatively accurate ‘weather report’. In this case, I am using the Ebola epidemic to demonstrate the efficacy of macro-astrology.[1]  Can the 2014 Ebola epidemic be linked to any of the sub-periods of the…

I therefore try to keep the technical aspects associated with the astrological ages to a minimum.  However I have another WordPress blog with a different focus.  The At the Cutting Edge of the Aquarian Age blog is focussed upon the smallest divisions of the astrological ages and how these small divisions correlate to events as they unfold in the world.  For example, the world is moving into the…

In 2010, 64 percent of respondents in…

She had her personal near death experience, a traumatic near-drowning at age 12 which left her with aquaphobia. She played a literal femme fatale in the 2007 Sex and Death 101, a character named Death Nell who avenges women who have been sexually mistreated. In 1993 she deeply concerned herself in the kidnapping and death of a little girl named Polly Klaas, compelled to rehearse a Pluto/Persephone narrative.

Halloween approaches. Oct. 27's Scorpio femme fatale must be poet SYLVIA PLATH (born 1932). This is one of her drawings. The night she met her husband-to-be, poet Ted Hughes, she bit his cheek to blood . . . at a party! He wrote "This lightning pass through all the walls of the maze was her real genius. Instant confrontation with the most central, unacceptable things." Fiercely felt female scorpionic imagery, clustering around death, sex, and the Pluto/Persephone story, pours out of Plath as from a wound. In her hair-raising, career-making poem "Daddy”, she cast her dead father as a…

Briar Rose by Edward Burne Jones. You are familiar with the story of Sleeping Beauty, so familiar that the horror of it has ceased to horrify. This is the story of a baby, born perfect, sentenced to death. She is cursed in the cradle by a vengeful fairy to die at 16. Only by the actions of a good fairy is her death sentence mitigated to a sleep of 100 years. You may feel as if your life stopped at a particular moment. It’s as if part, or all, of you was lost; it may even have been sent into a stony sleep. The cause might be an accident, the death of a parent, illness, addiction, war…

I’m referring to the murder of the American hostage Abdul-Rahman Kassig and 18 unnamed Syrian troops by Islamic State. All were gruesomely killed for the camera, and the video was posted on-line. There is a star in the sky specifically associated with decapitation. This is the “Demon Star”, Algol, named also the Medusa’s Head. Who is that violent and ancient being that gnaws at the pillars of the earth and is one and many seas and abyss and brilliancy and chance and wind? To gaze at it is to gaze for the first time, always. With the wonder produced by elemental things, the beautiful evenings, the moon, the fire of a brazier. Who is the sea, who am I? April
    21 Nov 2014 | 6:57 am
Once, on a visit to New Zealand, I stepped outside on a cool, clear evening and looked up at the sky. What I saw made me a little dizzy: not just a thick blanket of stars, but constellations so different from the ones I’m used to! As an urban dweller, I had no idea that I’d become so familiar with the night sky – until I saw one that was utterly foreign. Sagittarius rules encounters with the unfamiliar. Some of them take us as far away as the other side of the world, where the sky is upside down. But simply traveling to an unfamiliar part of your own city will do the trick as well.

One morning last week, just as the transiting Mar/Pluto conjunction in Capricorn was rising, I was falling. I had just set down the cat’s food dish, and when I stood up, a violent spasm in my lower back sent me crumpled to the hard, tile kitchen floor. As I lay there writhing in agony, the cats ambled over to investigate. Spike apparently decided that if I was screaming, I was still alive; so he calmly started eating his breakfast a few inches from my ear, in a show of Mars/Pluto ruthlessness and Capricornian pragmatism. As Mark Knopfler once wrote, “Sometimes you’re the windshield,…

Each time we visit my husband’s native New Zealand, I spend the first five days or so completely gobsmacked by the physical beauty of the place, feeling emotionally massaged by the gentle and courteous manner of its people. And the cows! New Zealand’s sheep get all the press, but I’ve never seen so many cows in my life, and I come from a farm community. Everywhere—alongside the motorway, next to roadside cafés—cows roam verdant hills, chewing contentedly, sometimes just standing completely still and staring, seemingly at nothing. Not necessarily my idea of a good time, but…

Our neighbor, who was her passenger, was left hospitalized in critical condition. They had been married less than one year. When we occasionally encountered him on our evening walks, he was so happy about his new marriage, so in love with his wife, that he seemed lit up from the inside. They were still engaged in the happy work of newlyweds – negotiating space in their home, having the place painted, deciding where to put the piano. It was weeks before he regained…

As of the end of the Mayan Calendar, the separations between dimensions or worlds have been dissolving or dissolved. This means many things, but in terms of the healing path many are on to become more whole and empowered as their Divine selves in human form, it means that emotions from other lives are more available to us now. There’s a wonderful side to it, namely that we can access skills and understandings that our other-life selves (normally called past lives) have. We can, in fact, embody now what our souls have us doing on many parts of the time line that empower us and bring out…

Every New Moon brings a new beginning with the new lunar cycle.  The Sun and the Moon come together in an alchemical conjunctio – the reunification of the masculine conscious force (Sun) with the instinctive lunar feminine (Moon).  When this new beginning occurs in Sagittarius, the sign of adventure and ideas and meaning and just plain fun, we have the opportunity to bring in more zest and gusto.  Suddenly we are aware of unlimited possibilities, and our view across the future is longer and more encouraging. The symbolism of the New Moon is even more powerful since the both the Sun…

How to Make Every Day of the Year ThanksgivingGratitude both reflects and creates happiness. It’s in our best interests to celebrate Thanksgiving every day of the year. To mix my holiday metaphors a bit, my heroine Auntie Mame sings in the musical version of her story, “We need a little Christmas, right this very minute!” We need a lot of Thanksgiving, too. We think of gratitude as something we have—or don’t. Actually, gratitude is a form of spiritual aerobics, more of an expansion of our heart muscle we gain by exercise. Expressing thanks is not just for the purpose of creating and…

Hey everyone. I’m a bit worried about this Black Moon Lilith that is transiting my 6th House. Inside my 6th House I have Venus conjunct Chiron in Virgo, so Lilith will eventually conjunct those two and make an opposition to my natal Saturn in Pisces in the 12th. Does it mean my sexuality, feminine side should increase during this period or I should pay attention to my health?

  • The Astrologer Daily: Mercury conjunct Saturn, November 25th, 2014

    theastrologer
    25 Nov 2014 | 12:00 am
Clever Mercury meets with disciplined Saturn today. We have an opportunity to become more productive. Finding solutions to stubborn problems will also be possible. People born under the signs Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces may zip through tasks like a hot knife through butter. This could be an excellent time to sign contracts and enter into formal agreements. Forming an alliance with a prominent business or client could create long-term financial stability. Ventures related to recycling, pharmaceuticals and insurance are especially favored. Putting money into interest-bearing savings account is…

The ambitious Capricorn Moon forms a sextile to idealistic Neptune today. Finding work that reflects our principles will be possible. Finding ways to help the most vulnerable members of society will be rewarding. Anyone seeking a job should explore openings at hospitals, charitable institutions and government agencies. We also may be more sensitive to the moods of others. Reaching out to people in distress will be a good use of our time. We have the ability to clear confusion, ease anxiety and provide direction. Anyone acting as a Good Samaritan could be handsomely rewarded. We should obey…

The outgoing Sagittarius Moon forms trines with both upbeat Jupiter and unique Uranus today. We should take every opportunity to try new things under this influence. Break away from the old routine. People born under the signs Aries, Leo and Sagittarius may feel especially daring. Taking risks could pay off handsomely for these people. Fundraising efforts for cultural, religious and educational institutions may be profitable. Conceiving of unique ways to generate awareness can greatly help the most vulnerable members of our community. We would be wise to band together to collect resources and…

    22 Nov 2014 | 11:04 am
This week, clever Mercury forms a conjunction to disciplined Saturn, making it a great time to master a complicated subject. Public presentations and business meetings should also go well. Affectionate Venus makes a trine to offbeat Uranus which has romantic sparks flying.  Lack of consideration for others could also occur under this influence. The egotistical Sun’s square to deceptive Neptune could make people think they are more important than they really are. Excessive demands and unrealistic expectations could backfire. Mental Mercury enters wise Sagittarius, favoring travel,…

The Sun moves into principled Sagittarius today, giving rise to the New Moon. Taking a stand about an ethical matter is favored. Beware of people who cry crocodile tears as a means to get out of trouble. Enforcing the rules consistently will prevent manipulators from trying to take advantage of the system. We should do our best to ensure everyone is treated equally. Later, restless Mercury makes a square to expansive Jupiter. Travel is strongly discouraged under this influence. Wait a few days before booking hotel rooms and plane tickets. This also isn’t a good time to discuss sensitive…

I still remember back in the mid-90s, when I was still a teenager, I went to watch Dumb & Dumber with my best friend in the local cinema.  It was my first Jim Carrey movie.  What a crazy man!  I thought as I left the movie theatre.  To me, Carrey is an incredibly talented comedian.  And that impression stayed with me to this day, until I encountered the following video clip back in July:I was taken aback from his poignant speech.  A quick glance at his birth chart and I discover his Sun, Venus, Mars in 3rd, with a Geminian Moon, Mercury conjunct the expansive…

New Moon in Sagittarius at 12:32 GMTNew Moons mark new starts.  In Sagittarius, conjunct Venus, seeking the meaning of life is highlighted.  What is it that is important to you?  A delusional mist of optimism may cloud us, with this new moon also square Neptune.  Luckily, we have Saturn (in Scorpio) in an out-of-sign conjunction with this new moon, giving us a touch of reality.  This new moon is like a wild horse, wanting to gallop freely into the distance but is held back by an invisible tug.  By all means dream big, but don't forget we have certain mortal…

A couple decades ago when vanity license plates surged in popularity here in central Ohio, a friend remarked, “Isn’t vanity supposed to be a bad thing?” Recently while reading a book, the author commented upon greed. Like the word vanity, I haven’t heard of anyone calling another “greedy” in quite a while. Dictionary.com describes greed as “excessive or rapacious desire, especially for wealth or possessions.” Has Ohio eradicated greed? Should Ohioans be promoting the non-greedy life among their fellow men? Or is greed strong and healthy living…

Personal consciousness in the horoscope is represented by the sign Cancer and the 4th house. Its opposite, social consciousness, is represented by the opposite sign Capricorn and opposite 10th house. Personal and social consciousness is a polarity, one of the six polarities symbolized in the horoscope. In Alchemy of Nine Dimensions, Barbara Hand Clow describes this polarity as feeling (Cancer) and power (Capricorn). While watching a documentary recently, I wondered again why we try to force beliefs on others. It works, but with the disastrous effects that the extremes of any polarity cause.

We’re all familiar with the phenomenon of hearing a new word, discovering a new idea, seeing an icon and suddenly seeing it, hearing it everywhere. Was it always out there and we didn’t notice? Or did our awareness of it create an attracting energy? For most of us, empiricists as we are, it was always out there and we didn’t notice. Option two is more mystical and can lead to self-awareness but can also lead to self-absorption. There is a third option that our mind takes when it has no out – coincidence. Coincidence is a word in our lexicon, like déjà vu, that allows…

Amadeus, a movie released in 1984, tells the story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s musical genius through the eyes of an envious peer Antonio Salieri. Salieri is both in awe of Mozart’s genius and also self-loathing of his own perceived “mediocrity.” Years after this movie was released, I saw its affects around me from people speaking of mediocrity to others professing to compose music in their heads (where else would you compose it?). It ties in to something I perceive in the American identity – seeing ourselves as unique. Yet if that is a cultural characteristic,…

Every day is an opportunity to get closer to the truth. It’s time to get closer to the truth of who you are and what it is you exactly want out of this life. Sure, it’s easy to get caught up in the day to day. We have responsibilities to tackle. There are jobs to maintain and relationships to attend to. But we have to not lose sight of the greater picture. We did not sprout onto this earth so that we could simply “maintain” and “attend to” our lives. We have to see that we are here to get a sense of our greatness and to manifest from it.  Our goals should not be to…

Paulo Coelho’s THE ALCHEMIST changed my life. I remember reading it for the first time in the late 90’s, when a friend gifted me a copy. The magical story of a young shepherd on a journey to discover his “Personal Legend” shook me at the core. It just happened to coincide with my own personal spiritual awakening, so it truly felt as if the book had fallen from the sky and into my lap for a deep meaningful reason. Since then, I have read the book too many times to count. I’ve listened to the audio book as read by Jeremy Irons twice. I even still have my original copy, with all of the…

This Virgo New Moon is one of healing Back in late April, I started this new exercise and diet regimen. Initially, I wanted to get myself into good shape for a destination wedding in Mexico. That wasn’t only to look and feel good on the beach, but also because I was officiating the ceremony and needed to look cute in my suit. So I ate and I worked out very strictly for six days a week and then allowed myself a cheat day on Sunday. Though the diet did help me in achieving my goals, it also created this really screwed up mentality. Since I had told myself that Sunday was my only day of food…

We are here to affect our lives, but more importantly, the lives of those around us. It’s a full moon in Aquarius. It’s happening right now. And it’s a Supermoon, which means it’s the closest full moon we’ll physically have to the earth this year. So, the effects of it can be pretty great. And pretty strong. For as the moon affects the ocean’s tides, it also affects the inner tides of our being. And with it being in Aquarius, we have to strive to focus its energy outward. We can’t just sit on it and keep it within. So what is this moon about then? Well, we’ve moved into a Leo…

  • Free Daily Tarotscope — Nov 25, 2014 — Four of Pentacles

    Mel and Chris
    24 Nov 2014 | 9:00 pm
Four of Pentacles Today you want to think about what it is you might be holding onto too tightly, and more importantly why. The Four of Pentacles can refer to a hoarding mentality, a poverty consciousness and a resistance to change. All of these end up creating blockages in your life, where your fear of letting things go can prevent new things from coming in. The cat in this card is not only protecting his territory (by sitting squarely on top of it), his ears are perked up and pulled back, a clear sign that he’s alert and guarded against any sign of danger. The pictures on the front…

The image on this card shows you have both feet planted firmly on the ground and are awash with new learning and ways to put it forth into your own world. You stand in a bubble of your own making and are not concerned or worried about what is going on around you. The world could shake or break but just as long as you are within your own world you feel safe and protected. Two of Wands Today it’s going to be all about taking an idea (Ace of Wands) and turning it into a plan of action. The Two of Wands speaks of believing in yourself and your goals enough to take steps toward making something happen. Mars squares Jupiter today which can make you feel invisible. This aspect is courageous and daring but it can also be a bit reckless. As with all Twos, you’ll have to find a way to balance these two dynamics. In this version of the card we see Jason — from the Greek myth Jason and the Argonauts — preparing to take the first steps toward…

But this particular New Moon’s theme is repeated, with both the Sun and Moon moving into a new sign (Sagittarius) at the same time. The November Full Moon is known as the “Beaver Moon,” and while we see a rabbit in this version (rather than a beaver), it’s also called the  “Full Frost Moon” which is depicted beautifully in this card. So is the juxtaposition between new (zero degrees) and full (the last full Moon, on…
