Tonight the United States Senate takes up the measure of health care reform for the American people. While this is being looked at as a budgetary issue, a political issue or a religious issue in the form of abortion, it’s really about whether people have the right to go to the doctor, here in the “wealthiest nation in the world.” The not so funny part is that a bunch of people with excellent health coverage are deciding for everyone else whether they can get help if they need it; or if they are entitled to the same preventive care. That is, if your kids should be allowed to…

Today’s Oracle takes us to the Pisces – Weekly of May 02, 2003 The sky is set at maximum Pisces right now and believe me — that’s a lot of Pisces. Yes, the Sun is in Taurus and just one major planet is in your sign, but the Sun, Mars, Jupiter and Neptune are in the midst (I wrote ‘mist’! — Neptune slipping in there) of a potent and unstoppable setup that may feel more than a little daunting. Daunting, as in stretched over a vast paradox you can’t reconcile, or like really trippy dreams, or like how do I handle all this power, or daunting as in…

We are now up to the last of the 12 signs, proceeding in order from Aries through Taurus. The project is Cosmic Confidential: A Future Investigation, the 2010 annual edition of Planet Waves. This is an invitation for Pisces and Pisces rising (or others with a strong signature from this sign) to contribute your experiences, ideas and responses to your astrology. Pisces of course has experienced Uranus in its sign for the past six or so years, and until recently, Saturn in Virgo — your opposite sign — for about two years. This has probably made for some interesting…

Good evening. Say hello to Cosmic Confidential: A Future Investigation. This is the 2010 annual edition of Planet Waves to which so many of you have contributed your thoughts, and which the rest of you have waited for eagerly. You will have to wait a while longer, because it doesn’t come out till the first week of January, But you can have the satisfaction of pre-ordering now and getting one article from the annual, called in the Shadow of Saturn — part of a series of how we think about Saturn, which is a good thing to think about these days. Gemini are air signs and they are represented by the symbol of the twins. Indeed, Geminis are often flighty and seem as though they can never make up their minds. If you are take-charge kind of woman and have no trouble being the leader, then you could probably get along with Gemini. However, if indecision annoys you and you don’t like dealing with people who seem to be lost in the clouds, then a Gemini is probably not for you. Gemini also tend to be aloof, so if that doesn’t bother you, and you understand it’s not something personal, then go ahead and date a Gemini.

Tarot cards have not always been used for psychic readings. They started about 500 years ago in Northern Italy. The first tarot card decks were comprised of 52 cards with four additional queens. The rich used the deck to play a game called the Game of Triumphs. Around the 18th and 19th century, tarot cards became popular with psychics and mystics. Now tarot cards are mainly used for psychic readings. More: continued here If you like this post, please buy me a beer for $3 8-)

Scorpio men are very charismatic and love power. They can be very stubborn, and that is how they often get their way. If you are a woman who is adaptable enough to step back to avoid a fight, or who can turn the battle to her advantage, then you might be able to handle this explosive sign. Scorpios would rather work together than fight, though they will fight if they think they need to or that it is the only way that they will get what they want. However, if you are very timid, then the Scorpio might be too much for you. They are passionate about everything, and prone to try to get their way…

Flickr / Jason A. Samfield via Creative Commons licenseWhen folks start learning about astrology and synastry, they run to Venus/Mars aspects to find out whether they’re compatible with their partners. Venus/Mars is about sexual give and take: my style of loving is in tune with your desire. But, as everyone knows, sex is a lot more complicated than that. We don’t always express our love via Venus. Venus can be a diva with a come-hither look; she draws what she wants (and sometimes doesn’t want) via the principle of attraction. Venus/Mars contacts can be surprisingly shallow.

If Bardem’s trying (a la Beyonce’s sage advice) to put a ring on it, Cruz certainly isn’t fessing up to it any time soon. When questioned by David Letterman, Penelope stayed secretive, insisting, “I don’t feel comfortable talking about my private life in public.” Her tight-lipped response is no big surprise, especially since these two smoking-hot…

My eye on the skyThe Sun leaves Scorpio for Sagittarius, joining Mercury in the sign. Theoretically things cheer up. Some around here have speculated such but I’m not so sure. Sagittarius inflates things, in this case, the Sun or the Ego. Ruler Jupiter is squaring Venus and opposing Mars in Leo so I think we could see dramatic displays of hubris and egos out of control. Further, the enlarged Sun has no impact on the Saturn Pluto cracks in the foundation so my advice would be to have fun but keep a humble foot on the ground and for Godsakes watch your back. As the soldier would say,…

    Neith
    21 Nov 2009 | 7:43 am
Today the Sun moves from Scorpio into Sagittarius and I thought a post from the Archives on Jupiter would be fun. As we approach the transition of Jupiter from the yang fire sign of Sagittarius to the yin earth sign of Capricorn on December 18, 2007, I find myself considering Jupiter’s effect.  In traditional astrology, Jupiter and Venus are called “beneficent” and when they show up in charts and by transit, they are said to bring all that is good.  That sounds wonderful but this has been not been my personal experience or that of others whose charts I’ve read. Since I have a natal…

Uranus is at a virtual standstill preparing to go direct on December 1, 2009 at 22° 42′ Pisces and if you have a planet or Angle between 21° and 23° as I do, you may be feeling jangled and twitchy. When calm did not return after an intense New Moon on Monday, I started checking and realized Uranus was the culprit because it is exactly trine my natal Mercury triggering a natal Mercury-Uranus inconjunct. Uranus often has the most immediate impact of all the outer planets by transit because of its electrical, dynamic nature. If it forms aspects to your personal planets (Sun, Moon,…

Developments that began unfolding last Thursday or Friday continue to play out in what promises to be another intense week. There likely will be another surprise or two, and it’s anyone’s guess whether it will be pleasant or of the other variety. The week begins with a powerful New Moon in Scorpio. You’ve probably read Neith’s complete report, but if not, it’s a must-read. This New Moon comes fully loaded with six out of ten planets in fixed signs, virtually guaranteeing some sort of conflict. Now, as I’m so fond of saying, not all conflict is bad.

    5 Nov 2009 | 8:32 pm
I recently commented at Stars Over Washington that the Nov. 4 Neptune station of Aquarius so close to the U.S. Moon would produce an event that would bring sorrow to the American populace. I think we’ve seen this with the shootings in Fort Hood, Tex. This tragedy galvanized my family because my nephew left Mosul, Iraq, about two days ago, heading to the center in Fort Hood where the violence occurred. I haven’t been tending my blog quite as well as I should be, but I wanted to put up a quick post about how today’s celebrity deaths of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson are triggering a period of national mourning of sorts, fueled by the Internet and social networking. Depending on what time you use for the U.S. chart, the current Jupiter/Neptune conjunction is either conjunct or quite close to the U.S. Moon, which signifies the people of the nation. Today, the Moon is in Leo, which often coincides with accidents and surprises, and this is opposing the Jupiter/Neptune conjunction…

Just as the Moon moved into Capricorn at 3:59 p.m. Eastern time today, where it’s close to a conjunction with Pluto and a trine with Venus and Mars in Taurus, investors got a bouquet from Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. What’s interesting is that Justice Ginsburg only had until 4 p.m. to make her ruling. I won’t bore you with all the details, but I’m not surprised that Ginsburg ruled to delay the sale of Chrysler to Fiat, a deal that put unsecred creditors ahead of secured creditors. Justice Ginsburg obviously doesn’t take the sanctity of contracts…

Alfred Witte Today I wish to examine certain of the so-called Transneptunians, those hypothetical points proposed by Alfred Witte, founder of the Hamburg School during the 1920s and 1930s. The fact that the Transneptunian points are not known to physically exist was as much a problem for astrologers back then as it is for some today; indeed, as a result of the widespread ridicule he received for these theories and his subsequent disfavour with the Nazi regime, Witte committed suicide in 1941. I am challenged with the view that these points are meaningless often, and I reject the argument that…

Here is an interesting idea. Eris, Goddess of Discord, so named after being more or less directly responsible for the declassification of Pluto as a genuine planet and his reclassification as a ‘dwarf planet’ – if anyone is going to take Pluto down a notch or two it had to be Eris (the sister of Ares no less) – does not roll in a conventional orbit; she is differently inclined. Which means that for long periods of her very slow perambulation around the Sun, she is far from the traditional ecliptic of the Zodiac; certainly, she makes an appearance in the Zodiac: in the…

    30 Sep 2009 | 3:46 am
In my last post I discussed the problem with Mercury and made a case for something else. I would not wish to posit a specific astrological entity for the other awareness, it no doubt lies at the centre of your nativity, the place you are drawn to if you are prepared to suffer a little or a lot, or repelled by, if you are otherwise. This otherness is entirely Chirotic, in my view. And should we find ourselves in pursuit of this ‘other’ faculty that is not the mind, not the feelings and not the body either, we might well ask, “what is it?”. Well, it is a sense of rightness. It…

There’s one important element of the Mercury / Pluto link up that I didn’t mention yesterday and that is Goddess of the Hula, Haumea. You might remember that Dwarf Planet and Hawaiian Goddess extraordinaire is in Gate 57.  She doesn’t show up on the chart because conventional Human Design only works with a fixed set of planetary bodies and Haumea is not one of them. Now the New Moon is behind us we can take some time to consider the significance of that Mercury in the Sacral Centre. Significant why?  Because it’s connecting to Pluto in the G Centre.   Pluto and Mercury together are activating half of the Centering Circuit, which has a huge impact on all of humanity. The Centering Circuit (gates 34/10/25/51 for those who are interested) empowers us to honour our own convictions, to love ourselves and follow our unique path in life.   It imparts a thrilling love of self.  And it demands surrender to a future that cannot be known or planned.

So did I, at first.(Left:"Hit", by Richard Lindner. 1971) I settled on writing a few lines about Richard Lindner after considering first Egon Schiele (too porny and horny for a family blog), then Lucian Freud (nudes can get so boring), and finally found something of interest in Mr. Lindner's artwork. Investigating examples via Google Image, the style seemed kind of familiar. It

It's always a fun(ish) read when the skeptics come out to play on an astrology forum. I came across an example of this in an exchange at Skyscript -"Comments by a skeptic", posts between 31 October and November 16, after which the moderator had locked the thread to avoid further argumentative input. I do understand, but disagree with the argument skeptics drag out, on a regular basis, proposing

This review of my book The Living Birth Chart appears in the current issue of the Astrological Association Journal, and was written by the Editor, John Green:This book is a follow up to the 2004 book The Cosmic Egg Timer written by Joyce Hopewell and Richard Llewellyn, which gave an introduction to the Huber Method of astrological work. The Huber Method was developed by Bruno and Louise Huber in collaboration with Roberto Assagioli, the founder of Psychosynthesis. This book expands on the previous one, and is a deeper and more practical workbook. Numerous examples and practical exercises are…

    8 Nov 2009 | 4:01 pm
9th November 2009 marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The chart is set for 18.57 on 9.11.1989 in Berlin, based on data obtained from Astro-Databank. The Berlin Wall divided East and West Germany and split families apart. It was a stone version of the Iron Curtain which divided the Soviet bloc from Western Europe. The chart is a red/blue one with no green aspects. Red/Blue charts indicate a motivation which is either/or, black/white, with no shades of grey. This wall was set to come down, and no messing; it was the will of the people that it should do so.The chart shaping…

No, I'm not writing a post about predictive astrology, where the future configurations of the planets are studied in order to glean some insight into what the future might hold for a person. The planetary directions I'm talking about here involve two places I know about which have a walk through the countryside along a marked path which has placed, at appropriate intervals, models and information about the planets in the solar system. The first time I encountered this novel walk was in Zurich, when attending a seminar at the Astrological Psychology Institute where Bruno and Louise were…

Actor and presenter Stephen Fry was born on 24th August 1957 in London. Best known in both these roles either side of the Atlantic, Fry is also very popular amongst the Twitterati who follow his thoughts and witty musings. No time of birth is available so his chart is set up for Noon. This makes for some interesting speculation as the overall aspect structure is small, tightly packed and only fills one of the four quadrants of the chart. Which one this would be, had we the correct birth time, it would be interesting to see. Whichever quadrant is emphasised, this will always leave the…

Yea yea, so it's been dark recently. Psychic garbage filled out lives and we've been "taking out the trash" so to speak. All that stuff we lugged around from the past - our childhood, our past life, whatever, wherever. How has your 'emotional cleansing' going?Good news: the Sun moves into the sign of Sagittarius 8:23pm Eastern, 11.23pm Pacific - the sign of expanding horizons, silver linings, fresh opportunities. it's time to open our minds to a new possibility, to go in search of a new potential, to seek out a truth, to visit a new place, to sample a new philosophy, to try to incorporate a…

Our current lunar phase of new beginnings (the New Moon) is the sign of endings (Scorpio), and the sign of Transformation, moving from one state to another. Nothing is allowed to stagnate now at this New Moon, and how can we have a new beginning if we don't take care of the old stuff hanging around?Something needs to die now, and the New Moon will bring about the energy to allow for a chapter change. Just as midwives help us birth something, we now need those who can aid us in letting go - who teaches us this? So now, look to play this role in others lives and for others to appear to help you…

    6 Nov 2009 | 2:40 pm
A few years ago Yahoo launched a website where users can submit and answer questions called Yahoo Answers.   The site has become quite popular since then, and many people are familiar with it because it shows up frequently in search results for various queries. Recently I was doing some searches online when I discovered that there is actually an astrology section on Yahoo Answers. Technically the section is designated for ‘horoscopes’, and most of the questions are actually about Sun-signs, but from time to time a number of more advanced questions about horoscopic astrology pop…

The publishers behind the astrological journal Considerations recently decided to scan and release their entire journal archive online for free through the website  freeconsiderations.com. Considerations was one of the few serious astrological journals available over the course of the past few decades.  It was issued quarterly starting in 1983, and under the editorship of Axel Harvey and Ken Gillman over 70 issues were published by the time it stopped being produced in 2006. Given its relatively long history and unique status as one of the few serious journals for astrology, the…

    13 Nov 2009 | 9:30 am
A colleague of mine, who has been ever very sceptical about astrology, has ascendent in Virgo. Well, if you look at any sun-sign description of Virgo, it will tell you about “great practicality”, “attention to detail”, etc (including criticism, yes). And this is valid not only for those who have Sun in Virgo, but also if other essential points of the horoscope, like ascendent or the Moon, are placed in the sign. Not surprisingly, it was quite natural for the colleague to always wear a belt-bag with lots of useful bits and pieces. Once I asked him with laugh whether he had manicure…

Having been very busy at work, I can listen to the world news only occasionally, and I note extreme events these days (Sumatra earthquake, Samoa tsunami, storms in China and Vietnam) - no surprise as Mars is approaching Ketu again. I wrote several posts about this unpleasant constellation, which happens every 1.5-2 years, but this time its severe effects are amplified by the summer Sun eclipse which promised uneasy time to Asia and Oceania. Look at the map of the eclipse again - it covers exactly this area, including Far East of Russia, which recently suffered a great damage of the large…

Last week I attended an evening lecture at the Astrological Lodge of London (founded by Alan Leo in 1915). The lecturer was talking about 4th house and ancestors in a natal chart, and was mainly focused on family matters (type of family, internal relationship, etc). But there is yet another meaning of 4th house, and I was more interested in learning about that – the real estate and immovable property of an individual. When the lecturer asked people in the audience to give her examples of their natal 4th houses, and at the end, one lady mentioned her cusp of 4th house in Cancer with Jupiter…

And when I recently got flu, I was not surprised to later get heavy pain in my backbone and right leg – I immediately understood that the virus entered the nervous system and caused inflammation. When I told this to my friend, well, the scepticism was understandable. However, the very next morning, I bumped into an article in the most authoritative PNAS journal saying that influenza virus, indeed, can cause neuroinflammation…

  • Libra South Node, Libra Moon

    Elizabeth Spring
    11 Nov 2009 | 4:51 pm
In Evolutionary astrology we look at the South Node with eyes that are biased to see what unfinished business, what blockage, what challenge was not met—either earlier in this life or in a former life. So, we read the South Node negatively. To read the “Venus ruled” Libra negatively can be hard, because there is so much charm and personality there. It’s similar to saying “that nice person at the party/the job/the meeting wasn’t really so nice after all.” Too much niceness, too much ‘trying to make the peace at any price’, too much caring what the other person thinks and…

The South Node represents what we’ve come into this life with---the gifts, the wounds, the challenges. On the most basic level, the South Node is where we are comfortable because we are familiar with the territory, and with the South Node in Taurus, or with the Moon in Taurus, we know the delights of being comfortable, being sensual and sexual, having a sense of financial and emotional security, and enjoying the things in life that make it worth living. Venus rules Taurus, and this is the part of us that values the ground we stand on, our relationships, beauty, good food and drink, and…

Here’s a good question a reader asked—“Why are you writing about the South Node and the Moon together?” And I replied: I’m doing this because they mutually reinforce each other and tell more of the story of the heart. Yes, they each are different—dare I say “slightly?”—in that the Moon describes your obvious emotional and nurturing style in this life and how you relate to all things “maternal” including your Mother. However, the Moon's Nodes—are the Nodes of the Moon! And the South Node specifically holds the emotional memory of the Soul, so the story goes back further…

From the late 19th century and in the early 20th century, there was a major political shift in the USA , which is very much aligned with the planetary periods in the SAMVA USA chart (Perpetual Union). In fact, while planetary transits explain the significant events, the periods give an amazing insight into major trends in US history. The chart indicates a similar major shift will take place in US politics from around 2016, with a general improvement lasting for several decades. The Gilded Age (1865-1896)The Gilded Age is considered to have reigned in the USA for roughly the three last decades…

Actually, the predictions pretty much "nailed it." The following timeline of the financial crisis and predictions made demonstrate this in a convincing manner.EMERGENCE OF CRISISOn January 6, 2007, one of the first predictions was made on the basis of the SAMVA USA chart. During this time, it is perhaps not surprising to find that the cultural spotlight has been prominently placed on things that are generally not considered divine, rather the opposite, or irreligious things. Irreligion is defined as an absence of religion, indifference to religion, and/or hostility to religion. [1] Of course, in the Kailyuga (iron) age, the tendency is for pervaisive materialism. However, even within this materialistic age, the religious tendency would be…
  • Oil price prediction realised

    Cosmologer
    22 Oct 2009 | 2:31 am
Yet another mundane prediction based on the Systems' Approach has been realised. Earlier this year, when oil was below $40 it was predicted to rise in 2009. Many Western astrologers assume modern Western astrology owes its origins to the discovery of astrology by the ancient Babylonians. [1] They also consider that astrology was further developed by the Egyptians of antiquity before reaching its penultimate stage in the Hellenic world. Further, they consider that the 'horoscopic astrology' of the Hellenic world informed astrology in India. At the same time, the evidence suggests 'horary astrology' was originally developed by Indian astrologers. [2] The above conclusions are strictly based on an interpretation of the literary record. One important…

The Primal Mother-Child BondMoon in a horoscope represents the quality of initial bonding that takes place between a mother and her baby - arguably, it is the deepest and most passionate link we will ever form with the outer world, as our life - being a newborn - literally depends on the strength and endurance of this bond.Every connection that comes after this initial bonding will be defined in comparison to that first relationship, albeit subconsciously: we tend to expect the same type/strength of emotional expression, as well as wanting to maintain the same length and depth of affectionate…

Birthday is a terrific time to appreciate the development of the past year and look forward to a new cycle of growth. As the Sun returns to its natal position each year, it shines light on our core life intent and makes it easier for us to live from our center (i.e. the place of rest, peace, power and authenticity). Many people consult their astrologers around their birthdays for this very reason.Today is my Solar return, and I wanted to meditate a bit on the core life intent represented by my natal Sun:Sun's Sign & House PlacementMy Scorpio Sun in the 8th house suggests that one of my…

The Solar journey is a quest for true self knowledge and authenticity.Think of the last time you felt really centered and able to feel the joy of being fully alive in the moment. That was a Solar moment, where you were most likely expressing true facets of your being. All of our fears, challenges and personal shortcomings fade away when we are in that special moment.Robert Bly called this Solar experience as "being in the presence of the King." Lottery ads tell us you only need a dollar and a dream. But I think it is also helpful to have a list of lucky numbers to help spur the good fortune ... or fortunes. So with that in mind, I decided that we could use some lucky numbers that can be used in any helpful way. I gazed into a pool of water, Nostradamus-like, and contemplated the cosmos. Then I mixed the tarot cards and allowed the spirits to guide me to the cards that represent the lucky numbers for this week. Nothing is guaranteed but who knows ....? I choose eight numbers because 8 is the number of wealth. Here are the lucky…

Here's the horoscopes for November:Aries21st March – 20th AprilSaturn has now moved into the relationship angle of your chart, for a two year stay. Saturn is the planet of expectations, of those we place on ourselves and others, so this is what relationship issues are going to revolve around for the foreseeable. This is the time when you find out if those expectations serve you: if set your sights too low for your self-belief to cope with, you’ll recognise the flat feeling of un-fulfilment; set them too high and you’ll keep being disappointed. The key to this is adjusting self-belief,…

Aries21st March – 20th AprilFirst half of the month, especially the first week during the full moon in your sign on the 4th, there’s the likelihood of clearing the clutter on certain situations that have felt frustratingly slow or out of control in their backtracking or backlog. Full moons tend to break stalemates, and this one has the energy signature of communication moving things forward at last. After that, planets collect in your house of relationships, pulling your attention to that area of your life, and there’s a new moon here on the 18th, symbolising a new feeling of balance…

Aries21st March – 20th AprilThere’s an important line-up of planets all month in the problem-solving angle of your chart. Its part of a long-term repeating cycle going on at the moment, most noticeable in your day to day running of things and how you get the tangles, knots and spanners out of your works. The way to get the best out of this planet energy is to be open to sudden solutions. Watch them flash in, through dreams, daydreams or from someone you least expected. It comes when you aren’t pushing for the answer you see; the universe seems to go for nonchalance and no pressure.

Eclipses seem to set future events in motion, by amplifying the emotional significance of events happening around the time of the eclipse, which future events then seem to unfold out of quite naturally; all within the symbolism of the sign involved. They set a certain tone or a theme for months, sometimes years to come, through the emotional response that events at the time of eclipse seem to invite, or sometimes demand. This eclipse is in the sign of Cancer, so is uber-emotional anyway, being the sign of emotional…

We have anniversaries, biennial events, diamond jubilees, centenaries, bi-centenaries and even millenarianism but rarely do celebrations arrive around every 7,000 years!  Between 2015 and 2029 a very special event takes place that has not occurred since 5122 BC.  The world in 5122 BC was a very different place.  The population of the world was about 25 million people in 3000 BC, and so perhaps 10 to 15 million people were alive in 5122 BC – about the size of present day Los Angeles.  Nevertheless great things were stirring in the world as this period marked the first widespread settling…

Okay, so, the New Moon is on my Neptune, so forgive me if I space out and miss the point entirely, but here goes. It’s exact at 24+ Scorpio at 19:14 UT. I wrote a little program to show local time zone equivalents which is here. The Moon has its Fall in Scorpio. Traditionally a planet in its Fall would be considered to feel a bit “fucked up and far from home” in that sign, it’s the place where it’s least comfortable, and so where it can become insecure, defensive, frightened. In Scorpio, the style of dealing with this could well involve brooding, getting lost in…

After putting our ideas out there under the Gemini Moon, the instinct is now to return to our shells a little bit, protect and nurture our loved ones and tune in to the feelings again. The signs alternate between Yin and Yang, and in that sense represent the wave-like flow of life - we have to reflect and take things in (Yin) before we’re in a position to put out what we’ve discovered (Yang), and then rest and reflect again, etc., in a neverending cycle. Sun in Scorpio, Moon in Gemini As yesterday we have the bright, clever, sociable Gemini Moon combined with the deeply insightful but more secretive Scorpio Sun. On the surface they don’t really want the same things, but they can work together to use one another’s strengths - the potential is for brilliant wit with penetrating insight, the Gemini Moon providing a “socially acceptable face” to bring through Scorpio’s intensity. There’s also much potential for clever-sounding, witty, but deeply cutting remarks that feel good (Moon) at the time, but will be…

Disclaimer: The portrayal of sun signs in this post is a caricature. A rather vicious caricature. Sometimes a jab jolts us out of whatever unproductive rut we’ve fallen into and sometimes a jab is just gratuitous pain. Don’t read if you get offended easily. Yes, I know there is more to each sign…but today let’s jab a bit, shall we? Pen dipped in Venom ARIES Stop shouting. No one thinks you are a leader because you go down the hallways shouting. People think you’re an obnoxious boor. One of these days you’ll go too far with the wrong person. We kind of hope you do. And don’t…

November is turning out to be quite a month with Sun, Mercury and Venus in Scorpio. All that passion and intensity is a good way to offset this winter month in the northern hemisphere. Venus enters the water sign of Scorpio on 9 November, 2009 and while it is there, it teaches us that love is also passion, passion is also torment and sometimes torment is transmuted into death and transformation. Now, why would someone talk about death and transformation when they talk of Venus? Isn’t Venus about love and romance and all those other nice things? Yes, she is. But Scorpio is the sign of her…

Send me some of your and I’ll add them to this post. My Moon is in Scorpio. In its fall. I don’t care. I love my intense Moon. Intensely, of course. My Venus falls in Virgo. Hello my Fellow Traveler, How’s it going for you? Difficult transits? Yeah, me too. ::sigh:: Chiron’s been opposing the ruler of my sixth house: my dog died last month and my cat’s not well. Cat wouldn’t allow me to take him to the vet; and when the good doctor came home, he wouldn’t allow the tired man to do an examination. Now Cat’s hiding in my cupboard (even though that’s forbidden territory) and I’m exhausted. The Chiron opposition is not all that ails me. I believe the current sky’s making a grand cross in my chart: there’s trouble everywhere I turn. And I’m…

Photo by Felipe Gabaldón (cc) The Time Clock started as an offshoot of Havi Brooks’ nifty weekly check-in ritual, now known as the Friday Chicken, over at The Fluent Self. After years in cooking, and because we’re all about the march of time here, my weekly review requires clocks, and usually kitchen notes. If you want you can join me in the comments, too. It’s Friday the 13th! *spooky noises* This is sort of anticlimactic for me, though. I had a black cat as a kid, I’m left-handed, I have Mercury retrograde. I already fall on the wrong side of superstition. Big…

Which I did… like Molly, I keep a subscription to astro.com’s Personal Daily Forecast, since my own things sneak up on me. And lo, my Mercury return arrived late last night! I’ve never thought of it as a particularly witty moment before, but if my brain is turned up to 11 right now, that would be a natural side effect. So what exactly does a Mercury return entail, anyway? Any planet has a return when it comes…

The fourth house is, among a few other things, all about your home, how you feel about it, and how you tend to behave there. Uranus in the fourth often brings unusual taste in furnishings, a love of home electronics or gadgetry, and can represent frequent moves in early life. For me? Check, check, and check. There’s definitely a subjective angle to analyzing your own information, because I’ve overlooked or trivialized countless things that would be patently obvious to me in someone else’s chart. My most recent example is a biggie: it never sunk in for me that I have a big fat yod, with my Sun-Jupiter in the 3rd and Neptune in the 5th pointing out that tenth house Chiron. More Neptune work to integrate, it…

Boris Karloff: wouldn’t we like him to be a Scorpio? Actually he barely escaped it, born at 10:30 am (it is said), when the Sun, whose disc takes a whole day to pass from one degree to the next, was about 80% over the cusp into degree zero of Sagittarius. . . . But Sag is open and good-humored, not at all Scorpio--gothic, intense, secretive, moody, the typical Halloween horror cliche, so what gives? . . . . . Looking at Karloff’s chart , we see nothing else in Sag to reinforce that almost home-free-all Sun but a vivid close conjunction of Jupiter/Mercury in Scorpio, as if…

Fernando Botero, (b. April 19, 1932): Femme habillee par Valentino. Aries painter Botero is not afeard of red, for sure, tho I wouldn't say it plays a special role in his work. But he was attracted by fashion designer Valentino's great romance with the color. Valentino is a Taurus, but the Sun is his sole Taurus planet, while his chart's outstanding element is a powerful triple conjunction in Aries of Mars, Mercury and Uranus (all trine Jupiter), which he shares with Botero, who was born only three weeks before him.

Stellar spectra Color associations to the signs and  planets are not rigidly assigned, and are based on subjective psychological affinities. Some are no-brainers, like red being associated with the planet Mars and the sign Aries (which is “ruled” by Mars)  -- the war god evokes blood, anger (seeing red), the red planet, even the iron (oxide) of weaponry, which is also the source of blood’s color. Then the Moon and its associated sign, Cancer the Crab, suggests silver or white, also the moonlike pearl and nacre, esthetic essence of the crustacean. Some signs have…
  • Freud: Taurus or Pisces?

    Mark Shulgasser
    16 Oct 2009 | 9:57 pm
For some time I’ve been pursuing the idea that Freud’s correct birthday was March 6, not May 6. The almost universally accepted May 6, 1856 date (6:30 pm, Freiberg, Moravia, now Pribor, Czech Republic) appears authoritatively in the first sentence of Freud’s official biography, written by his close associate and disciple, Ernest Jones. Yet that very sentence bears a footnote (deleted from the abridged edition) joking that the actual birth may have taken place two months earlier, seven months after the wedding of Freud’s parents. Freud wrote a book called Jokes and…

    10 Oct 2009 | 1:24 pm
After long absence, and to dispel the heavy atmosphere I’ve breathed, something a little silly perhaps, arbitrary and unchronological, entirely consequent on the vagaries of TCM programming. This goes back to Gemini, the Hands, and the Taurus cusp. Remember the beloved, underutilized Robert Montgomery? Born exactly on the cusp of Taurus and Gemini (Sun was at 29d30’ Taurus at noon on his time-unknown birthday), this is arguably his best film. On the poster his dense, puzzled face contemplates his murderous digits, detached, vaguely disturbed,  with a glimmer of dawning…

Full Moons can set your teeth on edge to begin with, but this moon has the added weight of being a bit of a monster. Kind of appropriate on the heels of Halloween, dontcha think? This Full Moon sets up a planetary configuration known as a fixed grand square. Sun and Moon are opposite each other in the skies (which results in a full moon), and are at square angles with Mars and Jupiter, also opposing each other. The tension created by a Grand Cross is pretty strong and will challenge each of us as demands come…

Are you a student of astrology? If so, you’ll know that one of the more challenging aspects of astrology lies in understanding how the planets relate to each other. When planets are in dialogue with each other (or forming specific angles) they are said to be in aspect together. As with human conversations, some planetary dialogues are smooth, others less so. At any rate, I’ve just read a new book by astrologer Matthew Currie entitled Conquer The Universe With Astrology Book One: Aspects! In keeping with Matthew’s style, this is a really witty and easy to comprehend explanation of the…

If astrology works and if it does predict correctly in our lives, then it must indicate that there is only destiny at work and as individuals we have no choice or decision in our future.  I bring this matter up after listening to some very respectable astrologers discussing the matter, defending both sides of the issue.  The following essay is my thoughts on the matter, and you as the readers have the right to decide what your conclusions will be.  In one respect I feel there are some parts of our future that is definitely destiny, that part of our life which we have no control of.  For…

  • Scorpio New Moon - Seeing in the dark

    michele@sharedjourneys.org (Michele Lessirard)
    14 Nov 2009 | 9:11 am
Monday, November 16th, 2009 we greet the New Moon in Scorpio 25° at 2:14 pm EST. This week I interviewed my friend shamanic teacher and therapist Colleen Deatsman author of Seeing in the Dark- claim your own shamanic power now and in the coming age. Scorpio calls us to see in the dark, trust and transform our shadows, to birth the Light. I love this quote from Colleen: "Bare Awareness- the place where our mind falls silent with inner knowing." Listen in now to hear how Colleen healed from chronic illness and how the practice of shamanism transformed her life. Fall is a time of deep…

  • When your Woo-Woo goes bad...

    michele@sharedjourneys.org (Michele Lessirard)
    9 Nov 2009 | 12:40 pm
She called in the evening during family time. There's no "Hi Michele, my name is, do you have a moment to talk with me?"...No she launched breathlessly into "I found you on the web, I am reading your website, this has happened, that has happened"...a personal story is revealed, there's pain, there's a lot of angst and suffering." "I need a soul retrieval." And in the next breath she said...one psychic told me this, one psychic said that...I feel a groan coming on... Her merry go-round spirituality is spinning so fast she can't see the brass ring or hear her own inner guidance. When your…
  • Teleclass- Simple rituals create a shift

    michele@sharedjourneys.org (Michele Lessirard)
    8 Nov 2009 | 11:37 am
The flags wave gently in the breeze reminding me of the creative ritual I did at the Fall Equinox; how things shifted almost immediately. With my Flip recorder I show the Tree Spirit Flags created to honor the Nature Spirits. My goal is to inspire you, to connect with Nature, to see how small rituals can create a shift in your life as well... In the next New Moon Teleclass I'll share a creative ritual for the Scorpio energies. Mars is about to go retrograde, Saturn in Libra is squaring Pluto in Capricorn and well there is a story to tell. Your story... I hope you'll join me. New Moon in…

  • Catch The Rainbow

    20 Nov 2009 | 11:47 am
The Sun enters Sagittarius on Sunday November 21st at 04:23 UT where it will stay until 21st December. This heralds yet another shift away from the intensity of Scorpio.  The energy of Sagittarius is bold, large and optimistic - ruled by Jupiter it expands everything it touches, yearns to a brighter and better future and vehemently gallops to his vision, his quest - pointing his arrow of intent.  It is an athletic sign - in the sense that movement is paramount and it doesn't mind shifting gears either - it possesses warmth, generosity and flexibility. The fact that the image of…
  • Peeling the Onion

    15 Nov 2009 | 9:54 am
Monday 16th November brings us a New Moon in Scorpio.  New Moons are beginning cycles - the archetypal male and female energies are converged and the directive and the receptive are balanced.  In Scorpio this new moon is a perfect time to begin anew with emotional relationships, with shared connections with others, with finances and with sexuality. This particular new moon has the Sabian Symbol 'An x-ray photograph helps with the diagnosis'.  Scorpionic energy has been strong of late with the Sun, Mercury and Venus passing through this sign.  This has no doubt brought…
  • The Arrow of Intent

    14 Nov 2009 | 8:32 am
Mercury moves into Sagittarius on Sunday 15th November where he will stay until 5th December.  This begins the first shift of planetary energy away from the intensity of Scorpio and will be joined by the Sun in just over a week. Whilst in Scorpio Mercury had the mind of the detective - ferreting under the surface, researching, probing - a period of inner work and contemplation - intense and emotional.  In Sagittarius these lessons and truths will come forward and see the light of day.  Mercury here is broadminded, keen and witty (this is often the aspect you might find in a…
  • The Book of Changes

    8 Nov 2009 | 12:19 pm
Heavyweight giants Saturn and Pluto come together this week - making an exact Square aspect on November 15th in Libra and Capricorn respectively. Needless to say - this is a major event.  Saturn and Pluto move very slowly around the Sun - Saturn taking approximately 30 years and Pluto 248 years.  When they come together like this it points to tectonic like shift - the last being the late summer of 2001 when they were in opposition across the Gemini/Sagittarius axis. Pluto in Capricorn will want to rip up the rule book, change structures and delve deeply into what is currently in…
  • The Forbidden Fruit

    5 Nov 2009 | 4:06 pm
Venus moves into Scorpio on Sunday 8th November at 00:23 UT where she joins the Sun and Mercury. The planet Venus rules relationships, beauty, art, nature and self-worth - how we relate and how we take our pleasures in life.  In the sign of Scorpio this Venusian energy is imbued with mystery and intensity and this is a period where these themes will shift from the lighter feel of communicative Libra to the darker, emotional melting pot of Scorpio Someone who has Venus in Scorpio natally will love intensely and will be fascinated by the sensuality of subtle (and deep) tones, feelings and…
