I don’t know why this came to mind at this time, but the last time I gave an astrologer my birth data was in 2008. I did it as a favor. She wanted to practice cold reading on the phone. She was going to audition for one of those 900 numbers I think.  She asked me to be a “pretend” client and I said sure. I called her as directed. Rattled off my birth data as she “practice” handled the call. She promptly told me that my husband was going to die in four years (by 2012). I was planning to marry him in about a month.(...)Read the rest of Reason #804 I Don’t…

The post Venus retrograde in Leo: time to reflect on relationships appeared first on - During the Venus retrograde we have an opportunity to reflect on our relationships. On 25 July Venus stations retrograde at 0 degrees Virgo, reentering Leo on 31 July, and remaining in retrograde motion until 8 September. Retrograde motion occurs when a planet appears to move backwards in the sky. Venus retrogrades for about 40 days every eighteen months or so. We can expect this Venus retrograde period to be a focal point for the energetic work that needs to take place in our relationships. Whether this…

There is a fair amount of tension in the Zodiac this week, but if you’re cautious and use your head, you can survive it and possibly even take advantage of it. And bear with me, because I have good news at the end of the forecast. Sun opposite Pluto is exact on Monday, but its effects carry on through the first part of the week. You may find yourself exposed to a lot of other people’s ego trips… and make sure you come down from your high horse every once in awhile yourself. Watch and learn from the mood these few days, because next week it will be Mars opposite Pluto and it…

If he wants to win her affections, he’ll have to demonstrate his staying power, and he may lose interest before he’s able to prove himself. Mars in Gemini is fun, witty and charming. You’ve got to admit: a Venus-Jupiter conjunction sounds good doesn’t it? It’s like Willy Wonka and Santa Claus decided to throw a party together and we are all invited. Admittedly this aspect, which has been building for some time and becomes exact on July 1st, will be good news for many of you. But let’s not forget that although conjunctions are powerful, they can be a pain in the rear when they are squaring or opposing something in your birth chart. It’s been like watching a boxing match with all the razzmatazz, wordplay, and brutality, as well as cigar-wielding managers and backers sitting in the front row, waiting to see who hits the ropes first. One of the boxers has been the euro, a shiny fresh-faced currency; his opponent has been a shadowy, shapeshifter, a character brought to life by the energies of the outer planets, donning different masks over the last four years:…

    April
    30 Jun 2015 | 10:50 am
Most modern astrologers make some use of secondary progressions. What are they? How are they useful? Should you use them? Secondary progressions are a theoretical way of moving your birth chart forward to reflect your growth, maturity, and yes, progress. Here’s why they’re useful and you should use them. Working with transits is great. Transits are more external in nature than progressions; they describe events outside you, some of which have a very dramatic impact on the course of your life. But how you react to and are affected by a transit is more likely to be seen in the…

Plutonian and Scorpionic energies have horrible reputations because we haven’t yet as a collective really figured out what to do about pain. On the face of it, behaviors and choices stemming from those energies within us can be vengeful, lashing out, angry, abusive, violent, retributive, harsh, destructive … you get the idea. And you’ve heard of, witnessed, or participated in such things in some way – none of us can escape the truth of this heavier corner of the human experience. But if we consider that pain underlies all anger, the doorway to understanding opens. A…

Photo manipulation by Amin Sedig from Moonipulations Today’s Full Moon in Capricorn is a big and powerful one, amplified by both Mars and Pluto which are moving into a dance of opposition which will culminate on the 15th of July. The Capricorn Full Moon brings our focus to the material world and encourages us to apply discipline and structure to our lives so that we can create something of meaning – something that will last beyond our small and mortal life.  The Moon is opposed by the Sun in Cancer, so we find ourselves dancing in the polarity between Cancer and Capricorn.  On…

Normally a tragedy such as the one which just occurred in Charleston, in which 21-year old Dylann Roof, in the throes of the double transit of Saturn and Uranus I wrote of just this week, killed nine people worshipping in a church, would send me to the astrological chart to attempt to find a personality disorder that would explain how a person could commit such a heinous act. The real tragedy is that these events are becoming so commonplace that there is barely time to profile so many criminals and murderers, and at this point it becomes evident that the illness is not just in the…

Unfortunately without a birth time we can’t identify the ascendant, the sign on the horizon at the time she was born, which would provide more details about her relationship to her personal identity which is what this case is all about.  The rest of the chart is interesting  – three planets in Scorpio and three planets in Sagittarius…

To celebrate, we went to see one of our favourite bands and the occasion was marked with a couple of intriguing coincidences. My husband discovered that a couple of his friends - a couple - were attending the gig so we arranged to meet for a drink beforehand and as soon as they walked through the door I realised I hadn’t seen one of them since our wedding. Then, when we arrived at the venue, I spotted a guy at the back of the room on his own looking a bit out of place. I looked and then I looked again. It was who I…

    18 Aug 2014 | 6:16 am
Jupiter in Leo is an important trigger, a crucial point in the Jupiter cycle for the modern history of Iraq and a transit to watch closely. Iraq is awash with Lion symbolism. The Desert Lion (Shakir Wahiyib, the public face of Islamic State); The Lion of Babylon (Iraqi tank used during the 1991 War); the other Lion of Babylon (representing the King of Babylon and depicted at the Ishtar Gate to the ancient city, now part of Iraq) and of course, the live lions Saddam Hussein kept at his palace. Also, it seems that Jupiter's transit of Leo is incredibly relevant to modern day…

New Musings and Old Posts on the US and Independence Day and the Dilemma of Cancer/AquariusArticle © 2015 by Joyce MasonI couldn’t suppress my urge to write about topics related to Independence Day, the US 4thof July. I’m not a flag waver by nature because I feel the flag I’d rather wave is a big question mark. By that I mean something akin to the sentiment that was on a bumper sticker on the cars of many Unitarians when I frequented that church in the 1980s. It said, “To question is the answer.” I believe those who really love their country don’t take what happens on blind faith…

Article © 2015 by Joyce MasonI had a profound insight in the past year about how fearful I am. I hadn’t realized the degree and frequency of my fears. I’ve just learned to live with them. They are my “normal.” I am afraid often about a lot of things. While not fearful to the level of paranoia or even chronic negativity, it is still exhausting to deal with anxiety and worries on an ongoing basis. I’d rather not.If I could have only one t-shirt that says it all about me, it would have a single word on it—Gutsy. Courage isn’t an absence of fear. Courage is being afraid and…

Radical Reposts: The Signs – IndividualDear Radical Readers,It took almost a half year to get through the reposts on the planets. Time to move on to rediscover or re-enjoy posts that focus on the 12 signs. There are two types: articles that explore an individual sign and those that compare the Tribe of Twelve. We’ll start with articles that target specific signs. The vast majority of “sign” articles are comparative. The singletons are highlighted this round. Naturally, because this is The Radical Virgo blog, the most sign articles are about Virgo. For a year, I did articles on each…

Hello everybody, just wanted to know the difference between mean and true node and which one to use. My true node is at 15'21 aquarius and my mean is at 13'23 aquarius. I would have mars 12'33 aquarius conjunct them. If I use the mean there is a double solstice point with lilith 16'06 scorpio and pluto 17'24 scorpion respectively with the node and mars. My vertex also is at the midpoint 29'58 sagitarius. Using the true node there is a square with lilith/pluto. I think both nodes are different they are so for a reason. Whats your take on it? Sorry for the Math :) I ll try to post my chart but…

  • New Moon in Cancer 2015

    5 Jul 2015 | 3:21 am
Do you feel like an outcast, a misfit? An alien from another planet, an orphan in your family?  These are all very Aquarian in nature, but what ensues is not feeling part of a work team or family unit. This lack of a sense of belonging is related to the sign of Cancer. One common denominator I've noticed with Cancer strong in the chart (eg. Sun/Ascendant/stellium in Cancer) is the theme of belonging. For example, the native has no trust in the homeland and is seeking refuge elsewhere (Cancer is one's roots, including birth country), or s/he has no affinity within one's own family unit…

    20 Jun 2015 | 12:51 pm
Recently I reflected on Jupiter’s current transit of fire-sign Leo, a transit that will end in August when Jupiter moves into Virgo. I wasn’t sure I saw the “Leo” of this transit. Of course, Jupiter must play with the other planets which can alter the pure effect of its energy. But then I saw this news article noting that the US birth rate rose in 2014, the first time since 2007. Leo and the 5th house of the horoscope rule children. Go, Leo, go. Leo also rules love and romance, something a wee bit difficult to quantify. How many people fell in love in the last year?

When I told my cat that Jeb Bush formally and finally announced his run for the presidency, she cattily replied, “If this is a Clinton-Bush election, I’m not going to vote.” That may seem a strange comment coming from a feline. It’s possible, maybe, that I gave her the idea that when I went to vote I was voting “for the both of us.” We then had a lengthy discussion on why Bush waited so long to announce. My cat felt he did that to imply that he wasn’t from a political ruling dynasty and his nomination wasn’t a guarantee. She felt the long,…

Your community astrologers have probably told you that Saturn has just gone retrograde in Scorpio. Retrograde is the apparent backward motion of a planet, an optical illusion caused by the planets being so distant from each other. Really, Saturn is going forward but it doesn’t appear that way from here on earth. Saturn passed into Sagittarius late December 2014 from its two and a half year journey through Scorpio. In March, it began going retrograde and is now just passing back into Scorpio. That means we still haven’t fully processed and created new structures involving Scorpio…

If you’ve ever wondered, “What sign of the zodiac is most likely to show up late to a party?” we might look at politics as a guide. As of this moment, there are 14 declared contenders for president in the 2016 election. Of those, 57% are earth signs. The first sign to declare was an earth sign (Ted Cruz). In one week, four Virgos announced they were running (clearly, an astrological-political conspiracy of some sort). Earth signs clearly follow the “early bird catches the worm” school of thought. This week we had three announcements, one being our first fire…

When we are born we arrive on this planet at a certain point in time and space. At this point we enter into a complex, cosmic dance that then plays out over the course of our lives, much like a computer program. This process is set in play by the planetary cycles.
